Additional Details About Campers, Activities, Structure, and Staff

If your child is 5 to 12 years old and likes or is just curious about sports, then they will love Camp Olympia. Even if they are shy or feel athletically challenged, we are certain they will have an amazing time, learn, grow and leave camp with new friends, lots of great memories, and more self-confidence when it comes to athletic play and teamwork.

Sports and games are phenomenal tools for ensuring every camper spends their days unplugged, outdoors and active. They also provide countless opportunities for all kids to master the Big 6 Behaviors, get fit, and have FUN! Kids who enjoy sports, games, and social situations will immediately thrive at Camp Olympia. At Camp Olympia, we believe that attitude, effort, and improvement is vastly more important than physical ability. We understand that some campers are more introverted than others, but as long as your child is willing to participate and try hard, we will see to it that camp becomes a very positive and rewarding experience for them.   • Youngest: Any child who turns five years old by September 1, 2020 is eligible to attend camp. There is certainly wiggle room for children who fall just shy of this deadline, however a phone conversation with the camp director is required in such cases.
  • Oldest: Any child age 12 or younger may join Camp Olympia as a camper. 13-year-olds may, with special consideration, be granted an opportunity to participate as campers; but, in general, we expect all campers ages 13-15 to join us as a Junior Counselor In Training (JCIT). A phone conversation with the camp director is required to determine which program is the best fit in these cases.

Before each session begins, we will assign your child to a team of about 16 children who are their same age and gender. Each team is led by a Lead Counselor and a Junior Counselor. Our younger teams may also get additional support from a Junior Counselor In Training. The campers and staff members that make up each team stay the same throughout the camp session. This continuity encourages positive social interaction and provides valuable consistency.

We play a wide variety of sports, games, and activities at Camp Olympia. Every team will have six scheduled activities per day. Each team’s rotations will change daily and are customized for the age and gender of that specific team at camp. 

Certain core sports such as soccer, dodgeball, basketball, and Capture the Flag are played more frequently than games like 9 Square in the Air, ping pong, trivia bowl, or our Mystery Box Build-A-Game Challenge. 

All campers get a “free play” period at lunch where they will get to choose from a variety of different options. Two days each session our older campers will be off camp for field trips. Nutty, fun, camp contests featuring events like launching water balloons and throwing whipped cream pies at the staff emerge as surprise events throughout camp and add a little spice and laughter to our campers’ day!

While our 3-week sessions follow the same general flow: Welcome/Tons O Fun Week, Tournament Week, followed by Olympic Week, every session evolves into its own distinct camp experience and has its own set of special events and classic moments.

Our 2-week sessions are smaller chunks and combinations of our 3-week session flow and provide families with much needed flexibility. 

Absolutely! We invite you to consider attending more than one session at Camp Olympia. Our view is that our 3-week sessions provide just the right amount of time in the summer for campers to build strong friendships and lasting memories. Due to the wide variety of activity that we provide over the course of a session, campers will stay engaged and entertained, even if they are participating in the event for a second time around.

To attend Camp Olympia, you must sign up for at least one 2-week session, but you may sign up for as many as you would like. More time at Camp Olympia means more unplugged fun, friendships and memories. Who can argue with that?

Two camp directors (one of which is the camp owner) are onsite each day at camp to ensure that operations run smoothly. All camp directors are college graduates that have prior educational and camp experience.

There are three levels of counselors at Camp Olympia: Lead Counselors, Junior Counselors, and Junior Counselors in Training. Each camper team is led by a Lead Counselor. Our Lead Counselors are college-age young adults who have experience working with kids and an athletic background (at least at the high school level). Each year we expect our staff to include a mix of Lead Counselors who range in age from college freshmen to recent college graduates.

Every group will also receive support from a Junior Counselor. Junior Counselors must be at least 16 years old and involved in high school or club athletics. Each of our groups with kids ages 9 and younger get a third level of support in the form of a Junior Counselor In Training (JCIT) to assist with group supervision as well. JCITs are not paid staff (and thus not included in any of our staff to camper ratios), but they are carefully screened and provide another set of eyes and hands to help manage the group they are assigned to.

Age, experience, and athletic background are important considerations for every staff member, but successful candidates must also demonstrate a positive and infectious spirit, a deep level of commitment to the vision of Camp Olympia, and a tremendous work ethic. Incredible staff are what make camp special, as they care for, support, inspire and maintain order within every camper team. Registration, Schedule, & Logistical Information

Through our 2-week sessions you can join in the fun for part of our highly recommended 3-week sessions. Our hope is that you will find a perfect fit among the 6 different options Camp Olympia offers: our two 3-week sessions and four 2-week options. All campers must register for an entire 2 or 3-week session. We currently do not allow for splitting of sessions. Yes. Our registration form will allow you to specify campers you would like your child to be paired with. More than likely we will be able to accommodate these requests as long as the campers in question are of the same approximate age/grade. Please note that we group kids by both age and gender, thus we cannot group boys and girls together.

Morning Extended Care: 8:00 AM – 8:45 AM
Camp Drop Off Window: 8:45 AM – 9:15 AM
Camp Activities: 9:15 AM – 4:00 PM
Camp Pick Up Window: 4:00 PM – 4:30 PM
Afternoon Extended Care: 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Three activity periods are featured in both the morning and in the afternoon. A snack break is held each morning at 10:15 am. Lunch starts at 12:00pm and is followed by a free play period for the entire camp.

Camp will follow normal drop off and pick up times on all field trip days. Unless notified otherwise, campers should be dropped off and picked up just like they would be on any other camp day.

Any child still at camp at 4:15 pm is automatically checked into Extended Care and standard rates will apply. We do not call parents unless a child indicates they should have been picked up.

Policy Information Including Cancellations, Schedule Changes, Missed Days, etc...

You are welcome to change sessions as needed at no cost, provided there is space available in your desired session, and the session length is greater or equal to the currently enrolled session. If you switch to a session that is shorter in length, the below policy applies.

All cancellations or changes must be submitted in writing (sent via email is fine).

All cancellations made prior to March 1st: Tuition returned less a $50 cancellation fee.

All cancellations made between March 1st & May 1st: Tuition returned less a $250 non-refundable deposit.

Any cancellations made after May 1st: No refund.

We highly recommend purchasing Camp Tuition Insurance to cover your fees in the event you should need to cancel.

We do not provide refunds in the event that your camper is sent home for disciplinary reasons, because of homesickness/detachment anxiety, or due to illness or injury.

Schedule changes can only be made by Camp Olympia camp directors. Please send an e-mail to info@camp-o.com for any schedule change request. Requests will be granted based on availability and are not guaranteed. 

Any requested change must be confirmed through e-mail by a Camp Olympia staff member to be considered valid. There are no administrative fees when adding sessions to an existing schedule. However, please note that a $25 administrative fee will be applied to any completed request that switches or removes a session from an existing schedule.

Transfers carry a $25 administration fee per request. Please send an e-mail to info@camp-o.com for any transfer request. Requests will be granted based on availability and are not guaranteed. Any requested transfer must be confirmed through e-mail by a Camp Olympia staff member to be considered valid.

Preparation for a well-executed and flawless camp experience requires extensive planning to have the proper staff, equipment/supplies, and facilities in place to provide a fun and safe experience for all campers. Schedule changes can be very disruptive to the planning process and sometimes set off ripple effects that reverberate far beyond any one individual. 

Accurate forecasting of camper participation is crucial to the planning process. We recognize that planning ahead is not always possible and that summer plans can change. We strive to accommodate change requests as best we can, and the administrative fees we charge aid us in doing so.

Our Early Bird Discount is conditional upon keeping a set schedule at the time of purchase. Thus, any session awarded our Early Bird Discount at sign up will lose this benefit upon being changed if the Early Bird Discount window has closed.

No “Make Up” days are offered at camp for missed time unless there are extraordinary circumstances that are approved by the camp director. Like most standard youth programs, any missed day is considered to be time that has been forfeited.

Extended Care

Camp Olympia will provide extended care for your child should you need to drop them off early or pick them up late. 

We offer three extended care payment options:

Morning Extended Care

  • Morning extended care is offered from 8:00 to 9:15am. 
  • The rate for morning extended care is $45/week.

Afternoon Extended Care

  • Afternoon extended care is offered from 4:00 to 6:00pm. 
  • The rate for afternoon extended care is $72/week.

Unlimited Extended Care

Alternatively, if you know you will require extended care each morning and afternoon of camp you can purchase Unlimited Extended Care for $110.00 a week. 

Discounts

Families receive an additional 10% off of each sibling when they purchase any of our extended care options at registration. 

At 6:00 PM our extended care rate changes to $1 per minute per child. We also will start calling all emergency contacts provided if we have not heard from a parent or caregiver prior to 6:00pm.

Lunch

Camp Olympia will offer delicious, freshly catered lunches and snacks prepared on site. Sign up for our lunch and snack program will begin May 4th, 2020. At that time, all registered families will receive a complete menu for the summer with detailed information about cost and the process for purchasing lunch and snack for your camper/campers.
