Our Junior Counselor in Training (JCIT) program is for campers who are now 13 – 15 years old. The program is ideal for those who love being campers but are now looking for a leadership experience that includes preparing to become a counselor one day. JCITs must be ready and willing to assist when asked but just as ready to participate and be part of the fun when given that opportunity.
JCITs are an essential part of our camp community and will be assigned important responsibilities; therefore, JCITs are expected to work full time at camp for an entire three week session. JCITs must be prepared to turn down any conflicting camp, sports team or vacation opportunities that may arise during the 3-week camp session they spend with us.
The JCIT’s take part in a special training program to help them better understand the importance of a counselor’s responsibilities and the difference between being a camper and growing into the role of a leader. They will learn what it takes to be a good role-model, how to deal with difficult situations such as upset campers, team-building, effective communication, and safety.
